About Us:

The Civic Theatre, Chelmsford is part of the Chelmsford City Theatres which is owned, managed and funded by Chelmsford City Council. It has a 501 seat auditorium which offers a varied programme oflarge-scalee professional, touring and amateur events throughout the year, from classical drama and dance to an eclectic musical programme and all-time family favourites.

Booking:

You can book tickets for all of our performances online. However, some discounts and concessions are only available if you book over the phone or at the Box Office. We apply a £1.50 fee to all credit card payments. You can also book tickets for all of our performances over the phone during our Box Office opening times.

How to find us:

By Car: The theatre is situated in the centre of Chelmsford Town station, within 5 minutes walk of the Train station. The nearest car park to the theatre is  Fairfield Road Car Park. By Bus: The nearest bus stop to the theatres is the Chelmsford Bus Station in Duke Street.You can look at First Essex to check which buses stop at the Chelmsford Bus Station. By Train: The nearest train station to the theatres is Chelmsford Station. You can look at Greater Anglia to check which trains stop at Chelmsford Station.

Parking:

There are 3 car parks situated close to the theatre  – Fairfield Road Car Park,  Townfield Street Car Park and the West End Car Park. To find the Fairfield Road car park which is the closest to the theatre please use post code CM1 1TD. This is a pay & display car park  and accepts payment by coins, credit/debit card, contactless or pay by phone (0330 400 7275) payphone location number 85306. The charge for the evening is £1 from 5pm – 11.59pm. Please use the links provided to get further information on the Townfield and West End car parks.

 

Facilities

There are 5 wheelchair spaces available at the front of the auditorium, all wheelchair spaces should be booked in advance. Companion seats are available nearby.

 

Disabled Parking

There are four Blue Badge parking bays on Fairfield Road, and two Blue Badge parking bays in the Fairfield Road Car Park.  You can also park on the double yellow lines outside the theatre, providing you clearly display your Blue Badge and don’t obstruct the dropped kerb. You cannot park in the taxi rank on Fairfield Road, even if you display your Blue Badge.

 

Lift

The Theatre does have a lift offering access to the Balcony should it be required but seats in the balcony are tiered and setas will need to accessed via the balcony steps.

 

Audio enhancement system

Our theatres have infrared audio enhancement systems.You can request headphone receivers and necklace style induction loop transceivers before the performance free of charge.If you have a hearing aid, you will need to set it to T for the infrared audio enhancement systems to work.

 

Signed performances

Some of our performances have signed interpreters. The signer will always stand on the left of the auditorium, on stage right. You should contact us when you are booking tickets, so that we can find you a suitable seat.

 

Guide dogs

You can take your guide dog into the auditorium, or ask us to look after your guide dog during the show.You may be eligible for our Essential Companion Scheme.

Essential Companion Scheme

If you have a carer or companion who you need to help you access the theatres, they may be eligible for a free ticket. You need to register to be eligible for our Essential Companion Scheme, either as an individual or as part of an organisation.

 

Bar

A bar serving drinks before during the interval and after the show is located on the ground floor to the right of the auditorium.
